We need ideas and contacts in the U.K. and Ireland! Can you help us?

While our family still has another few weeks to enjoy Prague, we’re also preparing for our upcoming time in the U.K. and Ireland. This is a plea for any insight or connections those of you reading this may have in these countries. When we leave Prague on September 11, we will spend 10 days driving through Germany, Belgium and the U.K to get to the village of Castletownshend, Ireland, located on the southwest coast of the country. We’ll be staying there through the end of October. Our tentative route is shown below, but we can certainly modify it if we receive suggestions for other towns we should include in this road trip.

We’re excited about this next leg of our journey and would love your input. If you live, visit or have family anywhere near our route or in Ireland, please let us know of fun things to do, places we should see or organizations accepting volunteers. We’re hoping our service projects can ramp up when the language barrier is removed. We would love to find a couple volunteer activities we could do in the U.K. during our road trip as well.

Email us or comment if you can help us make it happen.
Thank you!

Route from Prague to Ireland

About the Author

Tracey Carisch

Mom, wife, friend and change agent traveling the world with my family to learn our place in it. After spending a career in organizational change management and community initiative implementation, I put my career on hold for our family's trip around the world. In April of 2014 we sold almost everything we own, put the rest in a storage container, and departed on this journey. While my husband continued his software development work to financially support our trip, I planned and documented our adventure, homeschooled our three daughters, and found volunteer work opportunities for us to do in the communities we visit. Now that we've returned to the U.S., I'm completing book about our family's adventure and our lessons learned.

  1. Brian and Tracey,

We met at the USA v. Czech Republic football match. I am a friend of Chris Johnloz. Your family’s journey really interested me and I asked Chris to send me a link to your blog. It’s fantastic! My wife and I live in Weybridge, UK, just outside of London. It appears you are going to travel right past our town. My company’s headquarters is also along your route (in Egham). If you are going to be stopping for any time in the London area, we would love to get together for a meal. Also, our employees do a ton of volunteer work in this area. I am going to check our sources to see if I can come up with some good suggestions for you. Please feel free to email and we can discuss it further.

    Thanks! Jeff
